Modern Poetry Book Club

The Browsers Modern Poetry Book Club is led by Elise Dressler and meets monthly on Tuesday nights. We would like to extend an invitation to all of our poetry loving customers (RSVP is not necessary). The books are available in store at 15% off if you plan to attend the book club.

Every meeting explores a different poet through reading and discussion. This Fall, the group will explore poets published by Wave Books, an independent poetry press based in Seattle.

December's selection is Olio by Jess Tyehimba: Winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Part fact, part fiction, Tyehimba Jess's much anticipated second book weaves sonnet, song, and narrative to examine the lives of mostly unrecorded African American performers directly before and after the Civil War up to World War I. Olio is an effort to understand how they met, resisted, complicated, co-opted, and sometimes defeated attempts to minstrelize them.

If you have any questions about the event, please email Elise.
